Where I Stand

My Priorities for Galveston

Galveston is at a turning point. The investment is here. The opportunity is real. These are my positions on the issues that matter most to the families who call this island home.

Find the Yes

For too long, the loudest voices in Galveston politics have been the ones saying no. No to parks the community already paid for. No to housing the island desperately needs. No to accountability when the answers were inconvenient. Saying no is easy — it doesn’t require a plan and it doesn’t require bringing people together. I’ve spent six years on city council and twelve more on the planning commission, the housing finance corporation, and the landmarks commission — working with people who disagree, finding common ground, and getting to a yes that everyone can live with. That’s what Galveston needs right now. Not more fights. Not more deadlocks. Leadership that starts by asking: how do we make this work?

Fiscal Responsibility

Real reserves, honest budgets, and a tax base built to last. I served three terms without pulling from internal reserves — and I won’t sacrifice people for a campaign slogan.

Short-Term Rentals

Over 1,000 residents responded to the city’s STR survey. 57% said noise is their top concern. The ordinance passed — now it has to be enforced consistently, in every neighborhood, every time.

Insurance & Cost of Living

Many families pay more than $10,000 a year in insurance before property taxes. A mayor can improve our flood ratings, pursue every available federal dollar, and stop making it worse.

Coastal Resilience

The seawall is the reason this city exists. Every mitigation investment reduces insurance premiums for every homeowner. Protecting the island and protecting family budgets are the same fight.

City Employees

Firefighters, police, public works crews, dispatchers — they keep this city running every day. They should never be a bargaining chip. I’ll build their raises into the budget from day one.

Public Safety

Safe streets are the foundation for strong schools, thriving businesses, and neighborhoods families want to stay in. Our first responders deserve leadership that has their back.

Housing & Growth

65% of island workers commute from the mainland. The shipyard is bringing thousands of jobs. The sites and funding exist. What’s been missing is leadership willing to say yes and mean it.

A Strong Port

The Port is Galveston’s greatest economic engine. With Davie Shipbuilding arriving, the choices we make now will shape this island’s economy for decades. That growth must lift the whole community.

Honest, Compassionate Leadership

City government works best when people believe in it. Too often decisions get made for headlines, not households. I’m running because I believe city hall should work for the people who live here — with honesty, fairness, and purpose.

Affordability & Family-Friendly Growth

Galveston is a place people fall in love with. But for too many families, living here is getting harder. A city can grow without losing its soul — but it takes leadership that plans for people, not just profits.

Youth & Education Partnerships

Every parent wants to see their kids safe, confident, and on a path to a successful future. The city doesn’t run the schools — but when city, schools, and local employers work together, doors open across every neighborhood.

Galveston’s best days are still ahead.

I’ve spent six years on city council and twelve more on the planning commission, the housing finance corporation, and the landmarks commission. I know this island. I know how to bring people together and find a yes that works for everyone.

On May 2nd, I’m asking for your vote.
